Got Questions? we've got answers
1) What is Hojicha?
Hojicha is a Japanese green tea made by roasting tea leaves (often sencha or bancha). The roast gives it a warm, toasty, slightly nutty flavor and a coppery-brown color. It’s naturally low in caffeine, so it’s popular in the afternoon and evening.
2) What are the benefits of Hojicha?
- Gentle on the gut – The roasting reduces sharp bitterness and astringency, making it smooth and easy to digest for many people.
- Lower caffeine – Typically milder than most green teas, which can be easier on sleep and jitters.
- Comforting aroma & taste – The mellow, roasty profile makes it a soothing, relaxing daily sipper.
- Hydrating – Like other unsweetened teas, it contributes to daily fluid intake without added calories.
- Polyphenols & antioxidants – Hojicha still contains beneficial compounds that help support overall wellness
3) How much caffeine is in it?
Hojicha is naturally low in caffeine compared to other green teas. Because it’s often made from more mature leaves, stems, or bancha, and then roasted, the caffeine content drops significantly.
- A typical cup of Hōjicha has about 7–15 mg of caffeine
4) How do I prevent clumps?
Since Hojicha powder is roasted green tea ground into a fine powder (like matcha), it can also form small clumps when exposed to air or moisture. To keep your lattes or recipes silky-smooth:
- Sift before using – Run the powder through a small sieve.
- Whisk well – Use a bamboo whisk for best texture.
- Store airtight – Keep the powder sealed and away from humidity to reduce clumping.
5) Can I drink Hojicha in the evening?
Yes! Hojicha is naturally low in caffeine and has a soothing roasted aroma, making it a perfect tea to enjoy at night. Many people find it relaxing and comforting—an ideal way to wind down before bed.
