Recipe

Hojicha Tea (Straight)
A roasted alternative to black coffee.

  • 2g hojicha powder (approx. 1 tsp)
  • 200 ml hot water (80–90°C / 175–195°F)
  • Method: Add hojicha powder to a cup. Pour in a small amount of hot water and whisk or stir to dissolve. Top up with the remaining hot water. No milk needed.

Hojicha Latte (Hot)

  • 3g hojicha powder (approx. 1½ tsp)
  • 30 ml hot water (80–90°C / 175–195°F)
  • 200 ml steamed milk (Oat milk is recommended)
  • Method: Whisk hojicha with the hot water to create a concentrated "shot" until smooth. Pour into a cup and top with steamed milk. Sweetener (like maple or brown sugar) is optional but pairs well.

Iced Hojicha Latte

  • 3g hojicha powder (approx. 1½ tsp)
  • 30 ml hot water (80–90°C / 175–195°F)
  • 150–200 ml cold milk (Oat or dairy)
  • Ice
  • Method: Whisk hojicha with hot water to create a smooth shot. Fill a glass with ice and cold milk. Pour the hojicha shot over the top and stir to combine

The Hojicha Hype: How to Whisk the Perfect Roasted Latte

Here's how:

STEP ONE

To avoid breakages, start by warming your bamboo whisk under water.

STEP TWO

Then, sieve 1-2 tsp (we prefer 2!) of Oura Hojicha into your mug or bowl to avoid clumps.

STEP THREE

Pour 50ml warm water into your mug or bowl (70-80°C, not boiling!)

STEP FOUR

Whisk in a zig-zag ‘M’ motion for 30 seconds to get a bubbly foam.

STEP FIVE

Pour your favourite milk into a mug, then add hojicha. Want it iced? Go for ice, milk, then pour hojciha on top.

Step two
