Got Questions? we've got answers

1) What is matcha?

Matcha is a finely ground green tea powder made from shade-grown tea leaves. Unlike regular green tea, where the leaves are steeped and removed, matcha is whisked into water or milk—so you consume the entire leaf. This gives it a richer flavor, a vibrant green color, and a higher concentration of nutrients. Traditionally used in Japanese tea ceremonies, matcha is now enjoyed worldwide in lattes, smoothies, and even desserts.

2) What are the benefits?

Matcha is valued for both its taste and wellness benefits:

  • Calm, focused energy – Contains caffeine balanced with L-theanine, an amino acid that promotes alert relaxation without the jitters.
  • Rich in antioxidants – Especially catechins like EGCG, which may help protect against oxidative stress.
  • Supports metabolism & digestion – May aid fat oxidation and overall metabolic health.
  • Promotes mindfulness – Preparing and sipping matcha is often seen as a calming ritual that supports focus and presence.
  • Chlorophyll boost – Shade-growing produces higher chlorophyll content, giving matcha its vibrant color and natural detox-supporting qualities.
3) How is Ceremonial matcha different from Culinary matcha?

Purpose & use

  • Culinary matcha is made for recipes. Its flavor is bolder and slightly more bitter, so it stands up to sugar, dairy, and heat—perfect for lattes, smoothies, cookies, cakes, frostings, and sauces.
  • Ceremonial matcha is made for drinking straight (traditional whisked tea). It’s delicate, naturally sweet, and creamy when whisked with water.

Leaf selection & harvest

  • Culinary: typically uses slightly older or later-harvest leaves, giving a more robust taste that cuts through other ingredients.
  • Ceremonial: uses the youngest, most tender leaves for a smooth, umami-rich cup.

Flavor & color

  • Culinary: pronounced green-tea flavor with gentle bitterness; color can be vivid to olive-green depending on the lot.
  • Ceremonial: sweeter, rounder, high-umami; usually a brighter emerald color.

Grind & texture

  • Both are finely milled, but culinary can be slightly coarser (still very fine) and benefits from sifting in batters.
  • Ceremonial is milled ultra-fine for a silky drink.

Price & practicality

  • Culinary is more budget-friendly for recipes where you use teaspoons at a time.
  • Ceremonial commands a premium due to stricter leaf selection and traditional milling for sipping quality.

Can you swap them?

  • You can drink culinary, but it’ll taste stronger and more bitter.
  • You can bake with ceremonial, but its delicate notes may disappear
4) How do I prevent clumps?

Matcha is an ultra-fine powder, so it can naturally form small clumps when exposed to air or moisture. To get a smooth, frothy cup, try these tips:

  • Sift before using – Pass your matcha through a fine sieve to break up clumps before whisking.
  • Use the right water – Add a splash of cool water first, whisk into a paste, then add hot water (about 80°C).
  • Whisk well – Use a bamboo whisk (chasen) moving in a quick “W” or “M” motion until the matcha is fully dissolved.
  • Store properly – Keep your matcha sealed tight, away from humidity, to reduce clumping over time.
5) How much caffeine is in it?

Roughly ~20–35 mg per 1 g of powder. A latte (1–2 g) is usually below a typical coffee; baked goods vary by serving.
